CA insurance commissioner cracks down on fraud
Auto insurance fraud may seem like a slam dunk, but CA regulators are up on the latest trends
In one case an individual claimed a truck caught fire and in another someone said their car was stolen – both were found to be lying and are now being prosecuted by authorities in California.
According to the office of Commissioner Poizner, a number of arrests have been made related to auto fraud cases.
Some of the cases investigated involve the Urban Organized Auto Insurance Fraud Task Force, which investigates auto insurance fraud that may stem from staged theft, vandalism or accidents.
“Flagrantly disregarding the law is the worst way to try and make a buck,” said Commissioner Poizner. “Our enforcement officers are far too good at their jobs to let insurance fraud go undetected.”
In one recent case in the state, four individuals were charged with felony insurance fraud and conspiracy, prompting the commissioner to remind residents – and anyone intending to pursue an auto insurance scam – that his office is committed to bring these criminals to justice.
