Now is the time to review auto insurance, experts say
With 2010 just beginning, auto insurance customers should review the specifics of their policies to save money and improve coverage quality
January is the perfect time to review auto insurance policies, personal finance website insuranceQuotes suggests.
insuranceQuotes advises policyholders to review their coverage frequently; lifestyle changes, the website says, can impact insurance costs significantly.
Losing a job can mean that a car is driven fewer miles; it may cost less to insure as a result. Acquiring a company car can lower the premiums on a personal vehicle, also.
Adding family members to a policy is an opportunity to save money, insuranceQuotes says: teens are typically expensive to insure, and putting one on the family policy may necessitate a search for the lowest-cost coverage.
And, because some insurers calculate premiums using credit scores, change in a person’s score may require shopping for a new policy.
The American Automobile Association also recommends that insurance customers review policies at the beginning of the year. Doing so makes sense, the group says, “because the value of assets changes over time and … financial responsibilities do too.”
