Attorneys top list of dangerous drivers by profession
Careers that require multi-tasking report higher accident rate.
Auto insurance rates may be reflective of a driver’s job choice, according to a Tuesday release by an insurance website.
The Top 10 Most Dangerous Drivers by Profession indicated that careers that require multi-tasking may increase drivers’ distraction – and accident rate. The most dangerous drivers include attorneys and judges, financial professionals, government workers and bartenders or waiters. Forty-four percent of attorneys reported a prior accident when claiming an insurance.com quote.
“On the other hand, though the job of a homemaker demands multi-tasking, young children are often along for any car ride,” said Sam Belden, vice president of the insurance website. “And when children are involved, people tend to take their time and use greater caution.”
The least dangerous drivers were athletes and homemakers, with 17 and 24 percent reporting a prior accident. These individuals are often off the road during rush hour, according to the report.
Auto insurance rates may increase prior to an accident depending on which driver is at fault, the value of an insurance claim and severity of the accident, according to the report. The type of violation and whether the accident appears on the vehicle are also factors.
