Times may be tough, but AAA expects families to get back on the road for a weekend away this coming Memorial Day.
The group said that travel on the May holiday is expected to see 1.5 percent more Americans hitting the road than last year for trips over 50 miles away from home.
“Last year, soaring gas prices and a deteriorating economy resulted in far fewer trips being taken than had been forecasted,” said Robert L Darbelnet, AAA president.
“The good news is sharply lower gasoline prices and plentiful travel bargains have Americans feeling better about taking a road trip this summer which should help tourism-based economic activity throughout the nation,” he said.
When heading out of town by car, some city dwellers will be picking up rental cars and some families may want to avoid wear and tear on their own autos and instead opt for a loaner.
This leaves many wondering if their auto insurance or credit cards will cover them in case of an accident. Most experts advise speaking with an agent or reviewing documentation to fully understand how far an auto insurance policy extends when renting a car.
